Our Mission and Experience

The Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Athens (EDRCA) was founded almost twenty years ago with a mission to provide intensive treatment for eating disorders. We have successfully treated hundreds of patients, helping them return to healthy lives, grow from recovery, and reconnect with family, friends, and careers.

Understanding Eating Disorders

Hospitalization and Care Approach

Understanding Eating Disorders

Eating disorders have become more prevalent over the last twenty years. They can be chronic, progressive, and, in severe cases, fatal. They include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. These conditions involve complex psychological and physical factors that are difficult to overcome alone.

Impact and Need for Treatment

Hospitalization and Care Approach

Understanding Eating Disorders

Eating disorders affect individuals and families deeply. They disrupt personal relationships, professional goals, and future potential. If left untreated, they can become lifelong and debilitating medical and psychological conditions. Recovery is challenging and requires intensive and sustained treatment.

Hospitalization and Care Approach

Many individuals fear hospitalization, which is sometimes necessary in advanced cases. However, it can disrupt family life, relationships, school, and careers. It is also the most costly and restrictive form of treatment and is considered a last resort at EDRCA.

Intensive Outpatient Focus

At EDRCA, our goal is to provide an intensive outpatient program that reduces symptoms and avoids inpatient care when possible. Treatment continues with skill and insight development, helping patients build confidence and tools to prevent relapse while staying connected to daily life.
